I went out running yesterday evening, which is not unusual (
literally everybody and their dog does), but after a few minutes I started to worry about myself, thinking the heat must be getting to me since I was seeing flashes of light. And then I realized, THE FIREFLIES HAVE COME!!!!!! Fireflies were at least 60% of the reason I moved here so I knew I would have to blog about them right away. The whole genetics of fireflies fascinate and confuse me, but none of that matters because they're gorgeous.
And at the time I saw those fireflies, I swear I planned this to be an entirely happy post.
Coming home from my firefly high, I almost stepped on something that looked a bit like a small sparrow, but was scuttling around the ground like a lizard. I decided that I didn't really want to know what it was, but as I stepped into the streetlight, it followed me. If you've ever lived in the South, you've already guessed that it was a cockroach. I've lived in Hawaii, I'm no stranger to bugs. But apparently I am a stranger to stranger bugs. Ew. Ew. HUGE.
In all honesty though, there could be twice as many cockroaches, and the fireflies would still make up for all of them. :)
